CIMT was founded 2002 by leading German immunologists and clinicians (C. Huber, Mainz; H.G. Rammensee, Tübingen; G. Hämmerling, Heidelberg; G. Schuler, Erlangen). Through continuous development it became the foremost german communication platform for cutting edge science and all aspects of translation in the field of Cancer Immunotherapy. In 2008 further internationalisation was achieved by the acceptance of C.J. Melief (Leiden) and
P. Johnson (Southampton) to join the board of members.
Exchange & Collaborations
One tool for promoting progress in Cancer Immunotherapy is facilitating the communication between scientists from all kinds of subspecialties. Therefore the annual international meeting for Cancer Immunotherapy was founded in 2003. In the last years this event developed from an expert symposium to an outreaching international congress with over 400 participants, over 100 accepted abstracts, 20 short talks, satellite workshops and a growing industry exhibition.
Additionally members of CIMT founded working groups to actively develop research programs and organize themselves to influence the legislative process where necessary. The CIMT Immunoguiding Program (CIP) was founded in 2003 and has developed into a major international driving force in the task for establishing standardized immunoassays. CIP conducted eight interlaboratory trials with over 25 laboratories from nine different participating countries. Furthermore CIP published several reports and guidelines in renowned international journals (e.g. Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy).
In the year 2008 the CIMT Regulatory Research Group was founded incorporating members from academia, biotech industries and regulatory authorities (PEI). It is aiming to facilitate discussion between all groups relevant for the translation of scientific knowledge from bench to bedside. As a first measure it filed a comment of over 120 stakeholders for the new EMEA guidelines on advanced therapies.
Cooperation with Partners
CIMT was able to partner with major international organisations like the
Cancer Vaccine Consortium (CRI-CVC), the
European School of Oncology (ESO-D) and the
International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer (ISBTC). Furthermore CIMT collaborates with the renowned journal
Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy (CII).
Biotech and pharmaceutical companies are a major driving forces in the field. CIMT has partnered up with major players like Roche, Novartis, Merck, Wyeth, Immatics and Ganymed Pharmaceuticals.
Education of Health Professionals
In 2005 we have launched a series of CIMT Advanced Education Meetings in collaboration with the European School Oncology (ESO-D. As a further focus of activities CIMT has published a print publication the
"Leitfaden für Krebsimmuntherapie" in the year 2008 (Deutscher Ärzteverlag) and is now working on new guidelines for cellular therapy.
